　　Soon again the boy came back

　　And he said to the tree，I'm now a man

　　And I must have a house that's all my own

　　I can’t give you a house，said the tree

　　The forest is my home

　　But you may cut my branches off

　　And build yourself a home

　　And so he did，and oh the tree was happy

　　Oh，the tree was glad

　　And time went by and the boy came back

　　With sadness in his eyes

　　My life has turned so cold，he said

　　And I need sunny days

　　I‘m nothing buy my trunk，she said

　　But you may cut it down

　　And build yourself a boat and sail away

　　And so he did，and oh the tree was happy

　　Oh，the tree was glad

　　And after years，the boy came back

　　From both ends of the world

　　I really cannot help you

　　If you ask another gift

　　I'm nothing but an old stump now

　　I'm sorry，boy，she said

　　I'm sorry，but I've nothing more to give

　　I don't need very much now

　　Just a quiet place to rest

　　The boy，he whispered with a weary smile

　　Well，said the tree，an old stump is still as good for that

　　Come，boy，she said，sit down

　　Sit down and rest awhile

　　And so he did，and oh the tree was happy

　　Oh，the tree was glad

　　在這首歌里，講述的是這樣一個故事：有一棵奉獻(xiàn)樹，深愛著一個小男孩。男孩天天在枝椏間嬉戲、在樹蔭下休憩，慢慢的長大了。有一天，他向樹要錢，說是想買一些他喜歡的東西。樹沒有錢，只有枝葉和蘋果。于是樹讓他把蘋果摘了，到街上去賣錢。男孩照著樹的話去做，看到男孩滿意的樣子，樹很高興。

　　不久，男孩又來了，說他現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)是個成人了，得要有間自己的房子。于是樹讓他把枝椏砍去，自己搭間房子。后來，男孩向樹說他厭倦了故鄉(xiāng)，想要到遠(yuǎn)方尋找陽光燦爛的日子，樹于是又把主干給了他，讓他自己造條小船出海去追尋夢想?？粗泻⑷M懷壯志地去尋找新的人生，樹很高興。

　　幾年之后，男孩倦游歸來，又來到樹的身邊。樹看看自己僅存的樹墩，十分抱歉地對男孩說：“如今我只剩下一個老樹墩，實在沒有東西可給你了”。男孩虛弱的笑笑，對樹說，現(xiàn)在我需要的也不多了，只想有個安靜的地方，好好休息一下。樹說，既然是這樣，那么我這老樹墩還是挺管用的，“來吧，坐下來，好好的休息一會兒”。男孩聽話的坐下，于是樹還是好高興。

　　父母就如這顆奉獻(xiàn)樹。小時候，我們在父母身邊快樂的玩?！L大后，我們離開他們，去尋找自己的夢想，只有在需要什么東西或者遇到麻煩的時候，才回到他們身邊尋求幫助。但無論何時，父母永遠(yuǎn)都在那兒，靜靜的陪伴和等待，傾其所有使你快樂。這個男孩對樹很殘酷，但這也是我們每個人對待父母的方式…………
